Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189)
A permanent visa for invited skilled workers that does not require state, territory or family sponsorship. The 65-point threshold is a minimum and does not guarantee an invitation.
Core requirements
You must be under 45 when invited to apply.
The nominated occupation must be on the skilled occupation list relevant to the subclass 189 points-tested stream.
A suitable skills assessment for the nominated occupation is required and must meet the official validity rules.
The SkillSelect EOI must show at least 65 points. The score needed for an invitation may be higher, and claims in the invited score must be evidenced.
At least Competent English is required at the time of invitation.
State, territory or eligible-relative sponsorship is not required for this independent pathway.
An EOI must be submitted through SkillSelect and an invitation received before applying; an EOI is not a visa application.
