Federal Skilled Trades Program
Canada's Federal Skilled Trades Program has the lowest language bar of the three federal programs — CLB 5 for speaking and listening, CLB 4 for reading and writing — but still requires proof of funds.
Core requirements
Speaking and listening must reach CLB or NCLC 5. This is the lowest language bar of the three federal programs.
Reading and writing must reach CLB or NCLC 4.
Proof of funds is required at the same amounts as the Federal Skilled Worker Program: CAD 15,263 for one person plus 4,112 for each additional person, as published by IRCC on 7 July 2025 and updated annually.
Waived if you are authorized to work in Canada with a valid job offer, with an explanatory letter uploaded instead.
You must plan to live outside the province of Quebec.
Meeting the conditions only enters the pool; an invitation depends on the CRS rank in a given round, and trades can also feature in program-specific or category-based rounds.
